Benefits of Spaying or Neutering Your Pets
At Arizona Chihuahua Rescue we strongly advocate spay and neuter as well as vaccinations for your pet. All responsible & reliable information agrees there is a pet overpopulation crisis in our community. Valley shelters take in many more animals every year than can be re-homed. Sadly, many adoptable animals are euthanized every year. Spaying and neutering is the most effective way to reduce the number of homeless pets in our community.
Spaying your female dog or cat:
• Helps avoid serious medical conditions, such as uterine infections, uterine/ovarian cancer and breast cancer.
• Is far less expensive than the cost of treating an infection, having an emergency c-section, treating cancer or raising a litter of puppies or kittens.
Neutering your male dog or cat:
• Helps avoid serious medical conditions, such as testicular cancer and often has a positive effect on your pet’s behavior.
• Makes pet less likely to mark his territory or spray urine throughout the house.
• Tends to make pet less aggressive and less likely to roam.
Neutering your pet prior to maturity and spaying your pet prior to her first heat cycle offers the best protection against serious health issues and the establishment of negative behaviors.
A Few Vaccinations Can Save Your Pet’s Life
Vaccinating your pet is easy, inexpensive and can save your pet’s life. Vaccines help protect your pets from contagious diseases, such as Parvo and Distemper, which can cause serious illness or death. Rabies vaccinations are required by law for all dogs over 3 months of age in Maricopa County.
Most veterinarians offer spay/neuter/vaccine services. There are also a variety of organizations which offer low cost spay/neuter/vaccine services.
Some of the local Phoenix metro area organizations offering low cost services are:
Arizona Humane Society (602) 997-7586 Arizona Humane Society
Maricopa County Animal Care & Control (602) 506-7387 Maricopa County Animal Control
Mobile Animal Surgical Hospital (480) 656-4479 MASH
