The East Valley Tribune ran a story on 9/10/2008 about Zak and Azir, the Chihuahuas rescued from Kuwait…We did not spend or raise any money to rescue these dogs. That was done by the Humane Shelter of Kuwait.

RESCUED DOGS FROM KUWAIT

AZIR AND ZAK

****PRESS RELEASE****

July 29, 2008

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CHIHUAHUAS ABANDONED IN KUWAIT SCHEDULED TO ARRIVE IN PHOENIX TODAY
Arizona Chihuahua Rescue to Save Zak and Azir (Phoenix, AZ)

Earlier this year, Arizona
Chihuahua Rescue (AzCR) saved more than 100 dogs from deplorable conditions in
Tucson. Now the small non-profit group is planning to rescue two Chihuahuas from Kuwait.

.

Zak and Azir were originally purchased by a nanny working for a royal
family in Saudi Arabia. When the family began to travel extensively, the young male
dogs were placed in a Riyadh boarding kennel where the conditions were described
as horrible. After living at the boarding facility for more than a year, the small
dogs were given to a family who kept them for another year, until they too, had to
give them up. The family brought the dogs to PAWS Protecting Animal Welfare
Society in Kuwait.

PAWS tried for more than a year to find the dogs a suitable home and finally
decided to reach out to rescue groups in other countries. Arizona Chihuahua
Rescue was the only group that responded to their pleas.

The dogs left Kuwait this weekend, traveled through Frankfurt and landed in
Los Angeles International Airport on Monday. They are being transported via rental
van to Phoenix on Tuesday.

The costs associated with the dogs travel have been paid for by supporters of
PAWS. However, the costs accrued while they await adoption will be covered by
Arizona Chihuahua Rescue. The small, volunteer-based rescue group is still reeling
from the costs associated with the Tucson rescue in March. Donations of money
and/or time are much appreciated. Monetary donations can be made to Arizona
Chihuahua Rescue, P.O. Box 52713, Mesa, AZ 85208 or you can click the
“donations” button on the website homepage to make credit card or direct from
checking account donation through Paypal.

Potential adopters are asked to visit the AzCR website
(www.azchihuahuarescue.org) for more information on Zak and Azir. Because of
the many months spent together alone with very little human interaction, the dogs
have developed a very strong bond. As such, AzCR is looking to place the dogs in a
home together. Keep in mind that there are also many other Chihuahuas currently
in foster homes awaiting adoption.
