We took Kirk in December 2020 as a fospice dog with severe hydrocephalus. He was 10 years old and probably never treated for his condition. His brain was under so much pressure from the extra fluid in his head that he was blind and deaf and the vet thought euthanasia was an option because of his poor quality of life and possible pain he was in.
But Kirk loved to eat and we couldn’t help but think a few more meals couldn’t hurt him. So, instead of euthanasia, we took a chance and tried an experimental medication. Since December, he has enjoyed 194 meals, 291 walks on the grass, 97 naps in the sun and more cuddles than we can count. The damage to his brain isn’t reversible so he won’t recover from his condition but we are happy he’s got these extra days to enjoy the good things in life.
Thank you to everyone that donates! It helps us help guys like him and take care of his expensive medicine that allows him to walk straight, shrink the fluid in his head and squeeze a few more good days out of this life. If you would like to help with his care you can donate on our website azchihuahuarescue.org. Thank you!!
