Jolson is a super sweet, loveable young (3 years) male Chihuahua. He is very playful, especially if there is another dog with him the likes to play. He likes toys but prefers to get treats that he can spend time gnawing on. Jolson walks well on a leash and gets super excited if he thinks we’re going for one. He’s curious about a lot, but not in a destructive or bad way. He just likes to check out new places and things that he might encounter, so we try to give him as many opportunities to explore as we can. Jolson eats very well. He came to us very thin, so we believe he is grateful for whatever food/water he can get. He has put on some healthy since being with us and will likely put on a little more weight before being at his healthy weight. The last vet visit he weighed in at 7.8 pounds. I would say 9-10 pounds would be a healthy weight for him. Jolson would do best with an active family and possible one with another dog. He doesn’t seem to mind if the other dog is small or big; however, he will be timid at the initial meeting until he feels comfortable with the other dog. We do not know how he is around cats or younger kids, but given his sensitive, loving personality, we suspect he would be just fine with either.
At the initial meeting with Jolson, please expect that he’s going to be timid and shy. With us, it took mere hours after he came into our home and learned that we
were there to love him and feed him for him to come out of his shell. He is particularly timid around men; however, he snuggles and plays with my husband without any issues now. Jolson will be a loyal and loving pet for anyone that wants to meet him. He wants to be part of the action and be with his people as much as possible. He does fine
in a crate for short periods of time when his people are away.
