We are an all volunteer rescue and we do not have any paid staff. We do not have a shelter as all of our dogs live in foster homes throughout the Valley, Flagstaff and Tucson. If you are interested in any of our fosters, please get in touch with their foster mom. We also have adoption events every weekend in the East and West Valley.

Please be patient with us and we will do our best to answer all e-mails within 48 hours. If you haven't received a response in 48 hours, please feel free to email the website and/or call our hotline number. Thank you.

We only adopt to Arizona residents.

All dogs currently residing in your home must be fixed and up-to-date on all vaccines. AZCR will determine the best home for each dog based on the application process and interview. The application and/or interview does not guarantee an approval. It also does not guarantee the adoption of a particular dog you may be interested in. AZCR may recommend a different dog more suitable to your household. AZCR is a privately run, non-profit organization and reserves the right to refuse any adoption that is not in the best interest of the dog based on our policies and standards.

BANDIT
**COURTESY POST**

This is a courtesy post for Bandit's current owner or person who found him. He is NOT in the care of AZCR, if you are interested in learning more about him and how to adopt him and his adoption fees contact Judy at her email listed below.

Bandit is about 13 years old and his owner passed away a few weeks ago. He is neutered, and up to date on shots. He does have arthritis in his hind legs, which can cause him to be grumpy sometimes, so will need to see a vet to determine if medication can help ease his pain. He's good with other small dogs, but does need to be fed separately, as he does resource guard. It is unknown if he can live with cats. His owner was elderly, so it is unknown if he is good with children, so an adult home would be best.

Please email Judy (pa_phillips@icloud.com) for information about how to adopt Bandit.

BIRDY

Birdy is about 2 years old and weighs 6.5 pounds. She is a pretty and cute little girl who loves her bully sticks!

BOWIE

“I don’t know where I’m going from here, but I promise it won’t be boring.” – David Bowie

Hi my name is Bowie. I am an adorable little 1 year old boy whose time was up at MCACC.

Fearful they said – hahaha! I am still very much a puppy so watch when I get that gleam in my eye. When I can sit still though, I love to lay on laps.

I weigh about 10lbs and love to play so much that I’ll play with my foster mom’s 50lb dog as well as the little kitten. I’ve tried the adult cats but they don’t want to play with me. I really want someone to play with. I miss the little girl who used to live here.

I am still working on getting housebroken but do pretty well when someone can keep up with letting me in and out. I have to tell you I love to go outside!

I walk well on a harness as well. I like to chew things – Nylabones, toys, paper, even hands but I’m learning that is not a good thing to do. I have been good with the furniture though.

I am an overall happy guy and although I can be shy, I like everyone. I am also very smart and am learning to sit. I have been neutered, microchipped and am up to date with my shots.

Please email Cindi (cflass@hotmail.com) for information on how to adopt Bowie.

CHANNING

DOB 6/13/11 - Rat Terrier/Chi mix - approx 15 lbs
Neutered Male - micro chipped - current on vaccines

I would say Channing is almost all Rat Terrier. He was turned in by an owner and we were told Rat Terrier/Chi mix. Channing loves to play ball or any other activity with his foster brothers and sister. He is learning to go on walks and doing really well with that. He doesn't do well with small children and should only go to a home with kids 13 yrs and older. He is really good when left alone - he has a large pen area in the kitchen and he likes to go in his crate and sleep there with the door open. Channing is very loving and likes to be close to people. The more attention the better for him. He'll sleep on the couch or in a dog bed, but he would prefer to sleep in a bed with somebody. If you're looking for an energetic and loving young dog, Channing is the one for you!

Please email
Becky
(beckyrobinson1@cox.net) for information on how to adopt Channing.

CHARLIE

Hi my name is Charlie. I just came to the rescue. I was found wondering the streets. I am about a year old and UTD on my vaccines. I have my microchip, but I still need to be neutered. I will be ready for adoption after that. My foster mom is still getting to know me so check back for more details.

Please email Kendall (kendallweber08@gmail.com) for information about Charlie.

CHICO SR.

Chico Sr. must have had a rough life before coming to our rescue. He is about 12 years old had has a large scar on his upper front leg. It is sensitive and if you rub it the wrong way, he will try to bite you; however, Chico has no teeth so he can only gum you.

He has very soft fur like a rabbit and likes to be with his human but not so much with other dogs.

Even though he is 12, he has many more good years ahead as small dogs can live to 16 or 18 years of age.

Chico needs a home where he will be an only dog and no small children because of his size. He is a very quiet and mellow dog who wants to be loved and feel secure. He has no medical issues and eats dry small kibbled food.

Please email Jo Ann (joannl2@cox.net) for information on how to adopt Chico Sr.

CHO

Please meet Cho! Cho was found by someone and taken to one of our vets who contacted us to foster him.

Please email Sindy (sindymiller0211@gmail.com) for information about Cho.

Coco, Whitie and Blacky need help to find a forever home that can keep them together. This three member Chihuahua mix bonded family have been looking for a forever home for a long time. Coco (mom) was rescued in December 2014 at a manufacturing company in Mexicali, Mexico, pregnant. She had six babies, one didn´t make it and three got adopted soon. Time passed and Blacky, Whitie and Coco became extremely bonded. They play, sleep and eat together! They do everything together! It is hard to find a home for one dog and harder for three, but Paloma truly believes in bonds among all creatures. These friends are bonded and deserve to live together. They are spayed and neutered and have shots to date. Coco is 3 yrs old and Blacky and Whitie are 1.4 yrs old. Paloma is located in Mexicali but will transport to a loving and good forever home!

Meet Einstein! Einstein has been busy at school working out equations to your heart and to his furever home!

Einstein came to us from the shelter with an upper respiratory infection and a bad patella. He has finished all his medical and is ready to find his very own home. Because he spent so much time on kennel rest, we are just now starting to learn good potty habits.

He is an awesome snuggler, not destructive and he doesn't mind his kennel. He likes to play with the other dogs, but actually doesn't really know how to play, so it's quite funny!

He likes going on walks and car rides. He would love to be the center of attention, he gives gentle kisses, and wouldn't mind being carried around or taken every where you go.

He weighs around 6lbs his DOB is estimated at 12/2013. He is fully vetted and ready for his furever home.

Please email Angela (areeves13@hotmail.com) for information about Einstein.

Hi my name is Gizmo! I am an approximate 10-year-old senior chi who loves to snuggle! I was found abandoned near a grocery store and these nice people brought me to a pet clinic where I met my foster mom. I have been working on my weight during small walks and I currently am receiving medication because I have hypothyroidism. However, that doesn’t affect my ability to love! My favorite thing to do is curl up in my bed and sunbathe. I am shy at first but I promise to be your best pal! I am a quiet, little guy who would probably do best on my own or with a calm older guy like me. I like to watch TV with my foster mom and give her kisses on her hand as she pets me. If you’re looking for a nice, calm senior doggie please adopt me! Let’s live out our golden years together!

Please email Karina (kbarbosa93@yahoo.com) for information on how to adopt Gizmo.

ISABELLA

Hi! I'm Isabella and I am a loving, happy and friendly girl!

I will sleep in bed with you or in my kennel without complaint. When you sit down, I will be by your side providing lots of love and companionship.

Now, I should tell you that I recently had a tumor removed and while they are pretty sure they got it all, there is a chance it could come back. I don't need any type of special medicine or care though just your normal TLC!

I would be a great addition to your family! Please get in touch with my foster mom to learn more about me and when I will be ready for my forever home!

Please email Joyce (jmercer8780@gmail.com) for information on how to adopt Isabella.

JACK

My name is Jack (Bauer).

I am a healthy 10 year old male, weight 8lbs, neutered, microchipped and up to date on all shots.

I have some fear issues with collars and leashes and may bite if I feel threatened. I would like to have a quiet home with no children or cats.

I love to sit in your lap but will need a loving person that understands my issues.

I came to the rescue because my family was moving and couldn't take me with them.

If you are interested in meeting me, please email Shelley (shelley@nusourceonline.com) for information.

JACKIE

My name is Jackie. I am a very cute red Chihuahua mix, my foster mom says she thinks I am mixed with dachshund. I have the prettiest eyes. They are a unique golden color and huge. I am a year and a half old, spayed female and up to date on my vaccines. I came from a hoarding situation and was taken to PACC where I was very scared with all the dogs barking and so many people walking by, especially since I had just been taken from my home. I like to play with my foster siblings, but I am bone aggressive so my foster mom doesn’t allow bones without supervision. I like to chase my cat siblings, but usually when a foster sibling initiates it. Now that I know my foster mom isn’t going to hurt me I follow her everywhere and I get so excited when she comes home I jump into her arms. I am still not sure of new people, especially when they come into my house. I do not like to be confines, but will go in a crate with some whining. I have convinced my foster mom to let me sleep in bed under the covers with her. My foster mom is so excited because I am potty trained! I go outside and if she isn’t home and I really need to go I will use the puppy pads.

I would like a home with someone who will have the patience to let me take my time to get to know them and feel comfortable in my new forever home. I like to play so it would be nice to have a sibling. I maybe ok with older children, but because I am nervous I need them to be patient.

Make sure to email my foster mom if you have questions and she will do her best to answer them.

Please email Kendall (kendallweber08@gmail.com) for information about Jackie.

JULIA

Julia is a chi mix. She is about 5 or 6 years old and weighs about 13 pounds, but is working on losing a couple of those, she should be around 11 pounds. She is housebroken, extremely sweet and loving. She can be a real couch potato, but does like to play with toys. Julia is the perfect companion to snuggle on the couch and watch a movie with.

Please email Sindy (sindymiller0211@gmail.com) for information about Julia.

KIRA

Kira is as sweet as they come! She weighs about 4 or 5 pounds and is around 8 years old. She is doing fantastic going outside to potty on a schedule and is ok with other small dogs but would be wonderful as an only dog. She does not kennel at night and does not like to be confined. She sleeps curled up on a blanket on our couch, but would probably love to sleep in bed with you.

Unfortunately, Kira arrived with terrible teeth and had to have most removed when she came into the rescue, but she is adjusting quite well. Sometimes, her tongue sticks out a little, but it just makes her even cuter than she already is!

Because of her small size, Kira can not be placed with young children or large dogs. If you are looking for a quiet, mellow little lap dog, Kira is your girl!

Please email Sindy (sindymiller0211@gmail.com) for information about Kira.

LADY

Lady is a sweet girl who was born approximately 2006. She is around 8 pounds. She came back to us when her owner, who originally adopted her from AZCR, passed away.

She gets along with other dogs but she loves the boys the best. Not sure how she is with little kids - would be best with kids older than 10 years. She is a snuggler and likes to sit in your lap or sleep near you.

She is a great walking partner. She has a very expressive face and adorable floppy ears. She is crate trained, spayed, and current on shots. She is a little shy at first, but warms up quickly, especially if you have food. She loves food! She would need to be fed 2x a day with small portions to keep her at a good weight. But you can add her favorite healthy treat - green beans :)

If you are looking for a wonderful companion, Lady is your girl! She currently lives with her foster mom in San Tan Valley.

Please email Heather (heather@hhpetservices.com) for information on how to adopt Lady.

MAGGIE

Hello, my name is Maggie. I am around 10 years old. Even though I am a little bit older, I still have a lot of miles left. I enjoy bones, walks, toys, and most of all snuggling under the covers with my foster mom. I am a total sweetheart. I get along with other dogs as long as they are not trying to eat my food or take my bone. Since I am an older gal I just grump at them. I get along with kids as well. I enjoy car rides and sun bathing. I am house trained and go in my kennel when I am told to. I am a little nervous at first and then I warm up. I only bark if the door bell rings. I am about 7 lbs and I am healthy although I do have some issues with my ears. I am looking for my forever home. Please contact my foster mom if you would like to meet me.

MISS LILY(SPECIAL NEEDS)

**A special needs dog can range anywhere from the elderly or injured in need of daily medication to the disabled requiring special restrictions and to the socially challenged in need of a patient and experienced owner.

The dogs here have a second chance at life because of Arizona Chihuahua Rescue. We believe EVERY dog has an owner out there who will love them, care for them and accept them just the way they are.

Please, when looking at these wonderful dogs, be sure to read their bio in depth to see if you have the time, patience and know-how to take them into your home.**

I, her foster Mom, am proud to present our sweet girl, Miss Lily. She was adopted to a family some months back who recently returned her to the rescue. They said that she was being returned because (1) she does not like to travel and (2) she goes after the pant legs of men-from behind. Since she has been with me she has traveled in the car to and from the vet's office on several occasions with no problem whatsoever. She does however want to go after mens pant legs-from behind. We are working on that with her and she will stop her pursuit with a correction from me.

Miss Lily is well housetrained, she sleeps in her kennel overnight with no problems, she knows the command "sit", she is very affectionate with me, loves to give kisses and gets along fairly well with the other dogs in the household. She does aspire to be the dominate dog but we are also working on that and she is coming along. She could do okay with another dog but would probably do best as the only dog. Lily is about 6 years old.

Miss Lily tested negative for heartworm and is on heartworm preventive meds. She had some seizures while with her previous owner and she is on medication to control those. Miss Lily tested negative for Valley and Tick Fevers so the vet feels she is epileptic and will likely need to remain on seizure control meds for the remainder of her life.

Please email Barb (barbr39@msn.com) for information on how to adopt Miss Lily.

Molly is a sweet girl who weights 11lbs. Her date of birth is 6/20/12. She is very shy but she is looking for her forever home. Could that be you?

Please email Joyce (jmercer8780@gmail.com) for information on how to adopt Molly.

NAKITA

Nakita is a playful little girl. We estimate she was born sometime in the middle of May 2014. She weighs about 8 pounds and has learned to use the doggy door. She will sleep in a kennel at night or will sleep snuggled next to you if you let her. Nakita has a luxating patella, but it does not cause her any issues. She absolutely adores going to the dog park to run and play! She would be a great companion on a daily walk. Nakita is shy when she first meets new people, but after a day or two her playful personality shines through. She is uncomfortable around children, they make her nervous, so can not be adopted into a home with any. This baby girl is smart, loving and ready for her forever home!

Please email Sindy (sindymiller0211@gmail.com) for information about Nakita.

NINA

Meet Nina! She came to us with injuries...maybe from another dog??

She went through jaw surgery and is now all healed up and ready for her forever home! She will probably never be able to close her mouth so it looks like she is always smiling.

She weighs about 7lbs. She is the sweetest most loving little girl and wants to be in your lap. She loves to sleep with you and doesn't move or disturb you. She will also sleep in her kennel without complaining. She is a great little walking companion.

Please email Jo Ann (joannl2@cox.net) for information about Nina.

NOELLE

Noelle is a precious little lady. She is a senior gal, probably around 10 or 12 years of age. She was brought into a shelter as a stray on Christmas Day, 2016 and that is how she got her name.

Noelle has not been in the rescue long, but we know she is housebroken and is as quiet as a little mouse. We will post more information as we get to know her better.

OPAL

Opal is a beautiful little girl. She is about 7 years old and weighs 7 pounds. She gets along great with other small dogs, but would also do well as an only dog.

Opal is a very gentle and sweet soul. She is a little shy when she first meets people and will creep up to you for you to pet her and pick her up to lay on your lap. After a day or two, she will come to you for some loving and give you kisses.

She goes potty outside when taken out on a schedule. This little girl is a real loving furbaby just looking for a loving furever home.

Opal has been spayed, micro chipped and vaccinated.

Please email Sindy (sindymiller0211@gmail.com) for information about Opal.

PEDRO

Pedro came to us from county with a severe case of mange. He has been treated and is now doing really great and is looking for his forever home!

He is estimated to be about five years old and we think he is a Chihuahua/Italian greyhound mix.

His foster mom says he is a sweet boy and he has some adorable floppy ears and a cute spotted coat.

Please email Jo Ann (joannl2@cox.net) for information on how to adopt Pedro.

PERDY (Chi-Whisperer dog)

**A chi-whisper dog is a dog that needs that extra caring hand to help them get over the fears and habits that they developed due to being in one of the following:
Coming from a puppy mill
Coming from a bad back yard breeder
Coming from a hoarding situation
Coming from a an abusive situation
These are great dogs that just need that extra attention from people who have that special gift with animals**

Perdy aka Perdida was born 11-07-01 which means she spent 7 years breeding in a puppy mill. How sad. She also is timid but coming along nicely.

Please email Barb (at barbr39@msn.com) for information on how to adopt Perdy.

PEYTON

Peyton is a pretty, 2 yr old girl who is extremely playful! She loves to be in your lap but also loves to go outside and run and play with other dogs. Peyton didn't do well with small children, so she needs to go to a home without kids under the age of 12. She does really well with men - she absolutely loves my 22 yr. old son! No apartments or houses without a yard - she loves the outdoors. Peyton is one of the sweetest dogs and has brought so much love to our house. A family would be very lucky to have her as their dog.

Please email Becky (beckyrobinson1@cox.net) for information about Peyton.

PINTA

Please welcome Pinta to our rescue! Pinta is 9 years old and is very sweet.

Pinta did come to us with some medical issues and had to have some mammary masses removed. She is doing better now and is looking for her forever home. She is a bit overweight so will need portion control at feeding time and watch those treats!

She is shy and timid but is getting better at it and will probably thrive in a loving and quiet forever home that will give her some time and space to become the loving and sweet dog she truly is!

Please email Jo Ann (joannl2@cox.net) for information on how to adopt Pinta.

ROOKIE

Rookie is 7 yrs old and is blind in one eye. Rook loves women and is very distrustful of men and of male dogs. He acts like a dog who witnessed domestic violence. If a male in his foster home, raises his voice, Rookie runs to the closest female and gets between her and the male. Rookie is very affectionate, loves to snuggle and sleep right against the back of his human, as long as it is a female. He gets along with female dogs but sure does not want to be around any males. Want a good buddy and a protector?? Rookie is the man.

Please email Barb (barbr39@msn.com) for information about Rookie.

SAM
**MEDICAL HOLD**

He is came to us from Pima Animal Care Center in Tucson. His life before PACC & now AZCR, was not so great. He lived outside in Sells, AZ and was turned into the shelter by his owners because they didn’t want him anymore. He was so covered in ticks, he developed tick fever; he has since been treated by PACC and is on medication. But he's not letting that get him down!!

Here's what a volunteer at PACC had to say about sweet Sam:

"Sam is a sweet, tiny little fellow….just right for cuddling. He’s a short-haired Chi, approximately 5 years old, neutered, and weighs about 8.5 pounds. Sam gets along with other dogs, appears to be housebroken, and he is gentle, calm, and quiet. In spite of all he been through and the fact he doesn’t feel very well, he’s loving, happy, and enjoys walking and sitting in laps. He also enjoys turkey dogs and, in case you didn’t notice, he’s downright adorable."

We can all agree on that! Sam will continue his treatment for tick fever, in his foster home and will be available for adoption when he is cleared medically.

Please email BJ
(bjrileytucson@aol.com) for more information about Sam.

SONNY CORLEONE

Hi! I’m Sonny Corleone, but you can call me Sonny, Sonny Boy, Sonny Bono (my foster dad likes that one, lol). I was named in memory of an angel dog, Sonny Corleone (of the Gilbert 23), who lost his life in the Tragedy At Green Acre Dog Boarding.

I was found as a stray in Tucson, and brought to the Pima Animal Care Center. This is where my foster mama met me, and decided she had to get me out of there. I must have charmed her with my sad, hungry, and scared eyes. I went home with her a few days later, after my stray hold was up, and I was neutered. I’m shy and scared at first, but if you have hot dogs, and go slow, I will warm up quickly. I don’t know how to tell you what happened to me before I came to the rescue, but I am scared of loud noises, and voices, and do have some medical issues that my foster mama found after bringing me home.

I have a broken tail, that has not healed, and part of it is coming off, so the vet will be removing some, maybe all of it, depending on x-ray results. It’s also possible I may have some fractures in my hips, as I have pain, and cry out when I go #2. I tested positive for tick fever, but am not showing symptoms, so the vet is sending out blood work, to make sure I have no underlying diseases. But I don’t let it get me down! I’m still a happy, loving boy, who loves to snuggle, and once I trust you, I will follow you to the moon and back!

I’m a 3 yr old, neutered, and chipped guy, who is a little on the skinny side, at 9lbs. Once I feel comfortable, I like to play with toys, and other small dogs, and can also live with dog friendly kitties! Once I’m healed up from my surgery, and cleared medically, I’ll be ready to go to my forever home! But foster mama says you can send an application any time, if you think I’m the friend you’ve been searching for you!

Love,

Sonny C.

Hello, my name is Spicy and I am a brindle smooth coat chi-weenie.

I was born 3/1/2008 per my owner who had to surrender me to AZCR. I need a home with NO children under the age of 12. I would like to be the only dog as I can be a dominant female. I like to go for walks and ride in the car. I like going to Petsmart type stores that are doggie friendly but, I am not great with folks coming up to pet me and strange dogs upset me.

I would do wonderful in a home with a women or senior couple. I like my crate as my inside doggie house. I do not get on the furniture. I do use the doggie door.

I was attacked by a big dog and was hurt. My previous mom was hurt as well by the big dog. I am located up north in the Verde Valley.

Please email Cho (cho.robie@gmail.com) for information on how to adopt Spicy.
