DANNY BOY

DEC 2009: We received a call from animal control asking if we could help a young male chi with some deep lacerations. We picked him up and went straight to Warner/Vista Animal Hosp. We wanted him to have a name rather than have a file saying "no name chi" so quickly called him "Danny Boy."

At first the concern was that the one laceration might have damaged the anus but luckily it did not. Since the injuries were not fresh the vet could not sew him up that first day so sedated him and cleansed the area.

During the exam, Danny Boy, looked scared and concerned, but not once did he growl or otherwise indicate he wanted to harm the vet.

This week he will be at the vet's office every other day for cleansing under sedation. He is on pain meds and antibiotics. We are not sure how many more visits to the vet will be needed.
The vet is not sure what caused his injuries. At first we thought a large animal but the vet thinks that is unlikely and believes that it more likely was a sharp object. We will never know.

We do know that he is getting better, that he has a wonderful personality and the vet bills are growing.

Any financial donation to help toward his bills will be very appreciated.

The East Valley Tribune ran a story on 9/10/2008 about Zak and Azir, the Chihuahuas rescued from Kuwait...We did not spend or raise any money to rescue these dogs. That was done by the Humane Shelter of Kuwait. Here is a link to the story:

RESCUED DOGS FROM KUWAIT

AZIR AND ZAK

****PRESS RELEASE****

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CHIHUAHUAS ABANDONED IN KUWAIT SCHEDULED TO ARRIVE IN PHOENIX TODAY
Arizona Chihuahua Rescue to Save “Zak” and “Azir” (Phoenix, AZ) –

Earlier this year, Arizona
Chihuahua Rescue (AzCR) saved more than 100 dogs from deplorable conditions in
Tucson. Now the small non-profit group is planning to rescue two Chihuahuas
from Kuwait.

“Zak” and “Azir” were originally purchased by a nanny working for a royal
family in Saudi Arabia. When the family began to travel extensively, the young male
dogs were placed in a Riyadh boarding kennel where the conditions were described
as “horrible.” After living at the boarding facility for more than a year, the small
dogs were given to a family who kept them for another year, until they too, had to
give them up. The family brought the dogs to PAWS – Protecting Animal Welfare
Society in Kuwait.

PAWS tried for more than a year to find the dogs a suitable home and finally
decided to reach out to rescue groups in other countries. Arizona Chihuahua
Rescue was the only group that responded to their pleas.

The dogs left Kuwait this weekend, traveled through Frankfurt and landed in
Los Angeles International Airport on Monday. They are being transported via rental
van to Phoenix on Tuesday.

The costs associated with the dogs travel have been paid for by supporters of
PAWS. However, the costs accrued while they await adoption will be covered by
Arizona Chihuahua Rescue. The small, volunteer-based rescue group is still reeling
from the costs associated with the Tucson rescue in March. Donations of money
and/or time are much appreciated. Monetary donations can be made to Arizona
Chihuahua Rescue, P.O. Box 52713, Mesa, AZ 85208 or you can click the
"donations" button on the website homepage to make credit card or direct from
checking account donation through Paypal.

Potential adopters are asked to visit the AzCR website
(www.azchihuahuarescue.org) for more information on “Zak” and “Azir.” Because of
the many months spent together alone with very little human interaction, the dogs
have developed a very strong bond. As such, AzCR is looking to place the dogs in a
home together. Keep in mind that there are also many other Chihuahuas currently
in foster homes awaiting adoption.
